Gone is the intimacy of the first hour and in its place is an atonal, rushed second hour that zigzags uncontrollably into oblivion. Events take place so rapidly that nothing registers or makes sense. Then the second hour of the film unfolds and everything turns to shit. Similarly Lady GaGa, who completely sheds her gargantuan pop persona here, is a revelation as an everyday woman navigating through the terrains of fame and a feverish love.

Bradley Cooper’s turn as a singer-songwriter succumbing to his addictions is the definitive performance of the Hollywood actor’s career thus far. These moments are powerfully open-hearted and for the first hour of the film, I was completely sold. The film starts out beautifully with intimate scenes involving Bradley Cooper and Lady GaGa’s characters falling in love and exposing their festering wounds to each other. There was also a part of me that was apprehensive about it topping Aashiqui 2, the 2012 Bollywood take on the 1937 original and my favorite incarnation of the undying story (sorry, Babs).īut upon seeing Bradley Cooper and Lady GaGa’s film, I can safely put my worries to rest. It’s a huge achievement.Like most people who rely wholly on film critic consensus to dictate their movie-going experience, I was excited to see A Star Is Born based on all the glowing reviews it got and its Oscar buzz. It was amazing how Bradley Cooper acted, sang in it and directed a new actor (Gaga). In an interview with Bombay Times, Aditya said, “ A lot of people messaged me saying how the Hollywood film was inspired by Aashiqui 2 (smiles) and how a lot of scenes were similar. Secondly, he talked about how it was iconic to witness Bradley’s acting in the film while he also also as well as directed Lady Gaga in it. He firstly mentioned that he loved the film and was a huge fan of Bradley Cooper. On being asked about this observation, Aditya couldn’t help but find it very funny. Fans couldn’t help but observe that Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s much-talked about film A Star Is Born had some similarities with Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Aashiqui 2. Hollywood inspires Bollywood many times, but in rare occasions Bollywood ends up inspiring Hollywood as well.
